Why shopping around for jewelry may not be productive
What's the Deal? with Conor Knighton
Every kiss begins with Kay and, as Valentine's day approaches, it seems like every commercial break does as well. With every ad, Kay makes sure to remind you that they're the “number one jewelry store in America.”
But let's say you're not into following the crowd. You want to be a little more unique and shop the competition, like Jared's. But did you know Jared’s is the same company? Sterling Jewelers Inc. owns them both. They've got 1300 stores and 12 different brands, so while you might think you're shopping around to get the best deal, your money all goes back to the same place.
The stores are so similar that, on their website, they just use the same generic mall store picture and just swap out different logos on top.
So, remember, if you're doing some last minute Valentine's jewelry shopping, shopping around may not be as productive as you think.
