The best advice when shopping online is to always go through a portal.  A shopping portal is basically a site you visit first before you go to other sites.  For example, if you want to shop at target.com.  You could go straight to the website, but if you start at a site like BigCrumbs.com and then click their link to target, you'll get 3.5 percent cash back on your entire purchase.

There are a lot of portals online:

1.       You can shop through the American Airlines Mall and get 4 miles a dollar at Anthropologie.

2.       You can go  through ebates.com and get 3 percent cash back at Office Max.

3.       Chase gives up to 10 points a dollar at Bloomingdale's which is a minimum of 10 percent back and, if you use your points wisely, you could turn this into a 20 percent savings or more.

4.       If you want to go to Macys, you could shop online via United for 2 miles a dollar, or ebates for 6 percent a dollar.

There are so many portals that sites have sprung up to track the portals.  Sites like erewards.com and nerdwallet.com are just a couple that show your options.
