Amex teams up with Twitter for great deals

What's the Deal? with Conor Knighton

American Express has recently expanded their partnership with Twitter.  Up until now, you've been able to use Twitter for discounts.  These discounts were great as you didn't have bring a coupon, the money came back as a statement credit, and you could occasionally stack it with other promos the store is offering.

Now, Amex is taking it one step further, allowing you to purchase via Twitter using a hashtag.  You tweet the hastag for a specific product, you confirm your purchase, and then it shows up.

Unfortunately, for now, there are only a few products for sale.  You do get a decent discount, though.  An Amazon Kindle Fire HD for $150 is $50 less than on Amazon’s site.  So, if you're into the specific products Amex has on offer, it may make sense to sync your card.

Just remember that, by sending a tweet, you're doing a little bit of free advertising for two companies.

Fortunately, Twitter accounts are free.  You can create one just for deals, and tweet your heart out without bugging any of your pals.

Would you ever consider buying something via Twitter?
