Amazon Prime's $8 offer can save you big bucks in shipping costs

What's the Deal with Conor Knighton

Gearing up to do a lot of online Holiday shopping?  That means you're going to be doing a lot of online holiday shipping.

For the first time, Amazon is offering a monthly deal for its popular "Prime" membership. Typically, Amazon Prime costs $79 a year.  In exchange, you get free two day shipping and $4 overnight shipping.

If you buy a lot of stuff, paying the $79 is worth it. But now Amazon is offering an even better deal.

If you don't ship everything, or if you don't want to commit to the whole year, Amazon just started offering Prime for $8 a month with no commitment. In other words, if you are planning to shop a lot over the next couple of months, you can pay $8 a month and cancel afterwards.

In addition, Amazon Prime gives you access to Amazon instant video which lets you watch as many videos as you want on your computer or Kindle Fire.  It's sort of like Netflix.

Just remember, you will need to cancel your monthly subscription when you're done using it.  If you don’t, your $8 a month will turn into $96 for the year, which is more than if you just bought the year up front.
