He's just as much a part of The Letterman Show as David Letterman. Number 1 on Jan Jeffcoat’s list is the late show’s musical director Paul Shaffer.

After 30 years, Jan’s favorite sidekick told TV Guide Canada that it's time for a nap. He has two years left on his contract and says, "I'll certainly be ready to lie down after that."

What made the Letterman/Shaffer chemistry so long-lived? Shaffer says the two never saw each other off-stage. Yes, that’s right: no Christmas parties, no BBQs, no birthdays or poker games.

Maybe that's the secret to any working relationship.  So is Jan going to hang out with co-host Matt later on tonight?

“I want this job to last 30 years, so let's just keep it on-stage,” Jan said.
