List of psycho jobs: Is yours on the list?
Many of us have looked around our workplace and wondered whether we work with a bunch of psychos. If your occupation made it onto a recently published list of the 10 most psychotic occupations, you may want to watch your back.
The list comes from the book "The Wisdom Psychopaths: What Saints, Spys and Serial Killers can teach us about Success" written by Kevin Dutton a psychologist and research scientist at University of Oxford.
Dutton says psychopath is not the traditional definition of an ax murderer we all think about.
"It means a distinct cluster of personality traits, which include ruthlessness, fearlessness, charm, charisma, focus and a lack of conscience," he said.
Here’s the list of 10 psycho careers.
3. Media (TV/Radio)
7. Police Officer
10. Civil Servant
Teresa Strasser went out to meet some of the psycho professions to try to get some answers. Chef Josh Hebert owner of Posh Restaurant said repetition and stress may play a role.
"What we do when you distil it down to the essence is, we do the same thing over and over and over and over and over again. We just have to do it perfectly," Josh said.
Doctors landed on the list of not psycho jobs, but surgeons were on the psycho list. Teresa talked with emergency room physician Dr. John Shufeldt to get his take on it. He seemed to see the value in certain psycho traits.
"I think surgeons have to have a personality that commands attention, commands respect, runs the operating room, and I think it draws people with strong personalities," said Dr. Shufeldt.
