By the numbers: How much coffee do we drink a year?
The average person drinks three cups of coffee a day. If you think that’s a lot, wait until you see some of these stats:
-- The average cup of coffee is 9 ounces, which means the typical coffee drinker drinks 27 ounces a day.
-- There are 100 million daily coffee drinkers in the United States.
-- Approximately 54 percent of Americans over the age of 18 drink coffee.
-- Almost 7 of 10 pour a cup within the first hour of waking up.
-- 54 percent say coffee makes them feel more like themselves.
-- 35 percent like their java black.
-- 65 percent take cream and/or sugar.
So how much is all this coffee costing us? Studies show that each year the average coffee drinker spends more than $160 on coffee.
Plus, 30 million of us order those foo-foo concoctions like the three-shot, room-temp, non-fat creme-brulee which are even more pricey. Fancy coffee is a booming industry. In America, we spend over $17 billion a year on the flavor-enhanced brew.
Now that’s an eye-opener – by the numbers.
