Tulsa high school sophomore delivers winning "I have a dream" speech interpretation
TULSA - In November, Central High School sophomore Aylin Reyes won first place in a regional oratorical competition for her interpretation of the famous August 28, 1963, "I have a dream" speech by Martin Luther King, Junior.
Reyes gave a 12 minute presentation of the speech for OneOK Thursday, the company that sponsors the competition.
"It's kind of fascinating the way people can behave, and have so much hatred toward one another," said Reyes. "I love the way Dr. King used a very peaceful method of moving America forward."
Reyes has studied speech since seventh grade, and said it came naturally to her.
She won $500 in the competition, and wants to study acting in college.
