Support the local economy by shopping local this Black Friday

While thousands of shoppers will be lining up and trading blows to get the best deals at the big box stores this Black Friday, you can avoid the crowds while you help the community.  Local Lily is your guide to everything local this holiday season. The free booklet contains about 30 unique shops and restaurants located in Phoenix, Scottsdale and the East Valley.

The idea was born two years ago when two local women wanted to find gifts on Black Friday but wanted to avoid the long lines and crowds.  They created their own list of local shops and boutiques and the Local Lily guide was born.

Beth Hickey, Local Lily Co-Founder says it’s difficult for a lot of these small stores to make their presence known.

"We drive down the road at 40 miles an hour and you can miss a lot of great mom and pop shops that are tucked into a strip mall," Hickey said.

You can download your free copy of the guide at LocalLily.com or text LOCALS to 72727 to receive it on your smart phone.

We also found a few dude approved activities to keep the men happy.  The Arizona International Auto Show gets under way today and runs through Sunday.

Check out hundreds of the latest models of cars, from the ultimate high end versions to eco-friendly all electric ones.  You can even get behind the wheel of one of the world’s fastest cars and get your photo taken on a green screen.  The auto show is being held at the Phoenix Convention Center.

If you prefer horses to horsepower, Turf Paradise may be your oasis in the desert.

Guys who attend on Friday will get free grandstand admission for Gents Day.  There will be $2 beers, and the gift shop will be open just in case you want to grab a quick holiday gift.  Turf Paradise has specials all weekend long.
