New beer law helps local restaurants

PHOENIX - Growlers seem to be growing in popularity around the Phoenix area. A growler is a glass container designed to be filled and refilled with beer while remaining resealable. The best part about them is that they allow you to bring your favorite brew home with you.

Before August 2012, it was only legal for breweries to fill up your growler, now a new law in Arizona allows any bar or restaurant to fill them up for you.

With this in mind, we take you to Central Avenue and Colter, where Federal Pizza is opening its doors today.

The hip eatery, with a major bar, comes from the same people behind Postino and Windsor and Churn. Sandwhiches, salads and gourmet pizzas are on the menu. Some of the pizza toppings include sweet potato, beets and brocollini.

The restaurant is inside the former First Federal Savings and Loan building.

In fact, the drive through window can now be used for drivers on the go to pick up their food and growler.

Just remember to keep the bottle of brew sealed while on the road.
