Local design students tackle Oscar fashion
The countdown to the Oscars is on!
But there’s one place ‘Around Town’ with some extra buzz.
So much in fact, we found red carpet worthy dresses at Kent State University’s Fashion and Design School, one of the best in the country.
“People rank us, like, number three,” said fashion design professor Vince Quevedo.
Quevedo and his students gave us the inside scoop on what we’ll see Oscar Sunday.
“I think what you’re going to see is not really outrageous,” said Quevedo.
Expect to see stars in classic designs, and don’t be surprised to see color.
“Definitely color. Color is going to be one of the biggest things,” said fashion design student Marisa DiBucci.
Some of the new trends that surfaced recently during Fashion Week in New York City will also most likely make an appearance.
“A lot of beading and emerald green and bright orange,” said fashion design student Kara Kroeger. “So I’m excited to see something like that on the red carpet.”
While the focus of red carpet fashion is usually on the ladies, hey, don’t leave the guys out of the picture.
“They wear the tuxedo and then they try to make that different than the usual,” said Quevedo.
They do that by adding a colorful vest or untraditional shirt collar.
As always, there will be fashion success stories Sunday, along with fails, but what stands out may show up in local stores.
“If something is really hot then it’s going to get knocked off,” said Quevedo.
“People will try to bring the influences from the red carpet to their street-wear,” said Kroeger.
