Get into the holiday spirit at A Christmas Story House

CLEVELAND - It’s among the top locations in the U.S. to ‘put a spin on the Christmas spirit’ according to USA Today.

“It’s a great honor to have made it," said Steve Siedlecki, Exectutive Director of A Christmas Story House.

The Christmas Story House on Cleveland’s near West Side was made famous in the 1983 holiday film, "A Christmas Story."

In the movie, Ralphie, Randy and Schwartz are major characters, but it’s the house that attracts tens of thousands of people every year. In fact, between 35,000 to 40,000 visitors go through the house per year, many of them for the same reason. They want to see "The lamp."

While a lot of the visitors are tourists, many still come from across Cleveland to take a tour of the Parker’s home. They say it's because they love the movie, but it’s also because it's from Cleveland and has lots of Cleveland pride.”

Next year is the 30th anniversary of "A Christmas Story," and Siedlecki says the house on Cleveland St. could be a major part of that celebration.

“Right now there are no plans, but I’m sure something will come up down the line eventually.”

United Dairy Farmers ice cream tour

An Ohio company has been tempting taste-buds for more than seven decades, and they’re not done yet.

“We’re working on a few new ideas,” said Stu Roemke, Manager of Research and Development at United Dairy Farmers.

Their Homemade Brand ice cream plant is located in Norwood, Ohio where they pump out thousands of unites of ice cream an hour.

“We run approximately 3,000 units per hour, up to 30,000 a shift,” said John Luebbers, Vice President.

A popular flavor that comes out of this plant daily is Cookies & Cream. Approximately, 7,000 pounds of Oreo cookies tumble in during each run and are checked once an hour for taste, texture and appearance.

"Every time I’m on the floor I am checking and tasting and looking to see if the product is what it needs to be," said Bob Zulliger, Manager of Quality Assurance.

Lakewood UDK, in Northeast Ohio, was asked to pick their favorite flavor.  With 30 to choose from, picking just one is tough. But topping their list for the holidays, is Peppermint Stick.
