Business keep hands from cracking with a moisturizing lotion...that's a bar
Hand lotion is a "must have" during the winter months -- especially in northeast Ohio where the chilly temperatures seem to suck the moisture out of our bodies.
Normally, when you think of lotion, a plastic bottle may come to mind. But at Pure Enchantment in Rocky River, bars also help folks defeat winter dryness.
“Rub it like a bar of soap. The nice thing about this is that it comes out,” said Debbie Brink, Pure Enchantment Owner.
Brink makes hundreds of lotion bars a week in her kitchen. “I get people that come in time and time again because it’s made right here.”
She starts by mixing natural ingredients together such as beeswax and Shea butter. They also has some liquid oils with avocado, almond and jojoba.
Once the beeswax is melted, Brink adds the Shea butter, Vitamin E and fragrance. Then it’s time to pour.
One small batch should make 100 bars. The bars are small, but they last a long time.
“It lasts a really long time because you only need a little bit,” Brink said.
KING OF THE OCEANS KICKS OFF THE HOLIDAYS AT GREATER CLEVELAND AQUARIUM
The ‘King of the Oceans’ is helping kick off the holidays at the Greater Cleveland Aquarium. King Neptune is granting wishes for fishes as part of the aquarium’s Winter Waterland.
“It’s kind of a fish-eye view of what it’s like when it gets cold outside,” said Tami Brown from the Greater Cleveland Aquarium.
Of course that means plenty of ice and snow. Brown says they are going to make it snow everyday at 1 p.m. in the aquarium in the shark exhibit.
During your journey, you'll see decorations made from recycled plastic, including a Christmas tree made up of 700 plastic bags.
Brown says that is intentional.
“The reason we did that is that an average family every year uses 700 plastic bags and we want people to get a visual image of just how much pollution that is,” Brown said.
Winter Waterland at the Aquarium runs through January
