Bass fishing tips from pro Keith Johnson

CINCINNATI - Professional fisherman Keith Johnson travels around the country hauling a 40,000 gallon aquarium to teach people how to bass fish. He's in Cincinnati this weekend for the annual Cincinnati Travel, Sports, and Boat Show at the Duke Energy Convention Center.

Johnson says the clear tank allows him to show people how to use their bait correctly.

"You actually get to see what the fish are doing and you see how a lure is working in the water and how the fish actually react to it," Johnson said.

The Oklahoma City native says there are tricks of the trade when it comes to catching fish.

"There's a lot of lures you're throwing in the water that you don't get bit and you're like they're not biting. They're not here. The fish are there, they're just not biting. We show you the different tricks of how to work that bait to hopefully trigger them into biting."

You can get more tips from Johnson and other pros at the show this Friday, January 18 through Sunday, January 20 and January 23-January 27.

Free African Culture Fest

There is another family-friendly event making our list today.

The Cincinnati Museum Center is bringing Africa to America with its free African Culture Fest celebration.

“A lot of people tend to think Africa is one culture but actually it is a lot of cultures of a single continent of 54, 55 countries," said organizer Clara Matonhodze.

The three-day educational event will include drumming, dancing, customs, and crafts.

“Families can come to our Collette Gallery to do crafts. And while they are doing those crafts they can learn the meaning behind those crafts," Matonhodze explained.

The museum center's rotunda transforms into an authentic African marketplace.

“You are actually looking at real merchandise that if you like something, you can buy on the spot," Matonhodze said.

The African Culture Fest journeys through The Cincinnati Museum Saturday, January 19 through Monday, January 21.

 Admission is free.
