‘Flashdance The Musical' makes a splash at The Hippodrome
80's pop culture movie's 30th anniversary
BALTIMORE - It’s the story of love on the dance floor, when Alex Owens met Nick. Flashdance The Musical is electrifying the Hippodrome this weekend.
“It is the most fun you will have at theater event ever!” said Actress Kelly Felthous who plays “Gloria.”
The Flashdance musical mantra, “One girl. One dream. One chance.” focuses on Alexis’ struggles to make her mark as a professional dancer.
The musical is filled with Alex’s iconic boxing quick steps and the infamous water scene.
“We’ve actually taken the water to a whole new level. There’s not just the one water pull; you will be in a water show. And it’s beautiful, and it’s unreal to watch and she gets drenched every night,” said Kelly.
Flashdance takes place in the 80’s, and fashion was not the decade’s strongest offering. Kelly pulled a blue leopard print jean vest and a teal leather miniskirt from her costume wardrobe.
It’s the music that drives this musical with updates of some of the iconic tunes from the movie.
“We have the wonderful pop hits: Maniac, I love Rock ‘n Roll, Gloria, What a Feeling and new songs that Robbie Roth wrote that has an 80’s vibe,” smiled Kelly.
